Wavell and Shirley McPherson opened as owners of the Brim General Store on September 3rd, 1973 and since then have diligently served and catered to the needs of the Brim community and surrounding district.

For the first few years, they ran the local general store successfully as it was, then over time grew the WG&SF McPherson business establishing and incorporating CRT rural merchandise to the products they offered. Wavell and Shirley expanded the store business even more into farm supplies and agricultural chemicals, with Wavell also taking on grain marketing for local farmers and selling fertilizer.

Wavell and Shirley’s younger son Chris began working in the General Store in November 1992 and has worked alongside Wavell in the shop since. With Chris’s wife Colleen also joining the business, the family work together with a dedicated staff team striving to succeed and see the family business continually grow in the range of products and services they provide to the local town and farming community of Brim.

WG&SF McPherson General Store is also home to the local sports retailer, being CJ Sports, who supplies sports gear and equipment to local cricket, tennis, football and netball players throughout the seasonal year.

Today, the business has not only been able to expand the way it facilitates and serves the local Brim community with its daily grocery, mail, postal and banking services, but also provides a small café area serving local bakery patisseries, hot coffee and other hot food options. With tables and chairs offering a comfortable place to sit and eat, the store has not only catered to the growing number of travelling ‘silo visitors’ into town, but also provides the locals with a ‘social community space’. A place they can come in to sit and enjoy a coffee whilst socialising and interacting with each other. Which in a small rural community, can be a most welcomed blessing.
